Atelier 34 Studio

A prime example of the term "compositional equilibrium", Michael creates artwork that can be displayed at any angle or perspective, creating 4 pieces of artwork in one piece.  Working in the abstract space for over 4 decades, Michael's viewpoint on abstract has evolved over time, allowing new waves of abstract artwork to be viewed across Ohio and Kentucky.

Currently located in the Atelier 34 Studio in Tiffin, Ohio, Michael continues to work on pieces, from small to large. Michael is currently renovating a church built in 1934 into his current studio, showcasing his available works, as well as his works-in-progress. Michaels history includes specializing in renovation of vintage greenhouses conservatories, schoolhouses, historic homes and churches.

Artist Statement

I create these expressions with few internal rules and use mostly automatic process to arrive at content. Color and form are similarly spontaneous though always limited by personal preoccupations and habit.

The larger works aim for “compositional equilibrium”: the balanced tension of elements of art especially color, form and shape, bounded with line, across the picture plane; which allows for the viewing of each work on all four axes.

Ultimately the works employ both landscape and figurative armatures that often give rise to “pareidolia”—the tendency to perceive meaningful images such as a face, or other bodily features, in a random or ambiguous visual pattern.
